Immigration Officials Swarm 7-Elevens, Issue Warning to U.S. Businesses

There’s no secret that Trump’s stance on immigration targets many United States residents. Federal immigration authorities have now arrested 21 7-Eleven employees who are suspect to be illegally living in the U.S. According to the Wall Street Journal, agents from ICE Homeland Security made visits to 98 7-Eleven franchises to “interview store employees and managers, and serve notice that employment records were being audited.” These actions were made in effort to enforce employers to hire legal U.S. residents. Those arrested now face deportation proceedings in federal immigration court. In response to the ICE sweep, 7-Eleven Inc. mentioned in a statement that they were aware that ICE would be making these visits to their stores. However, the store employers were not warned. This investigation appears to reflective of President Trump’s priority of combating illegal immigration.

Creatives Write Open Letter in Response to Google’s New Disputed Project

Everyone is familiar with the experience of trying to load a website full of advertisements. Beside it usually taking too long, loading a web page with advertisements changes the user experience, and is difficult to weed through. However, many companies rely on web-based advertising to make money (ex. Publishers). This is something the Google is trying to correct with their new project Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). According to their project website, the project “enables the creation of websites and ads that are consistently fast, beautiful and high-performing across devices and distribution platforms.” However, a group of journalists, developers, and designers published a letter in response to the new project with their concerns. Their arguments is that AMP “keeps users within Google’s domain and diverts traffic away from other websites for the benefit of Google. At a scale of billions of users, this has the effect of further reinforcing Google’s dominance of the Web.” Read the letter here.

Woolrich Sells Fashion through Sensory Experiential Shopping Experience in Milan

Woolrich, the American outerwear company, has opened a flagship store on Milan’s Corso Venezia that takes it’s shoppers into a glacial climate through an immersive shopping experience. The store features and immersive Extreme Weather Experience Room, where shoppers can try on Woolrich parkas in temperatures up to -20°C. The 14 sq m room drops its temperatures to produce a fresh layer of artificial snow to mimic an Arctic environment. Check out photos of the flagship store here.

Disabled Colorado Veterans Gain New Mobility Thanks to School of Mines Technology

Colorado School of Mines students are developing adaptive equipment to solve mobility challenges posed by veterans and first responders. The lab was granted $50,000 from the non-profit Quality of Life plus to develop this new technology using 3-D technology. As reported by the Denver Post, “the lab now uses 3-D technology to better analyze the body types of the veterans to make devices that suit each individual.” Read more about how this technology is already benefiting Colorado veterans here.
